Painting Umbria with Words and Images
with Sharon Zeugin
Artist journals and sketchbooks are a perfect vehicle for responding to the beauty of our surroundings in the landscape, towns and villages of Umbria. In this class, seasoned artists and beginners alike will have the opportunity to integrate watercolor painting, drawing, calligraphy and writing (text) into sketchbooks–and to create a unique, hand-bound “book of ours” that will tell the story of our stay in Italy. Every sense will be ignited as we explore the backstreets, town squares and churches of hill-top medieval villages, visit ancient ruins by the sea, and enjoy the locally grown food and wines. Find your artistic muse with kindred spirits here among the ancient olive groves, and come away refreshed and inspired.
Sharon teaches workshops all over the US & Canada, at the Austin Museum of Art, and she directs the Literally Letters Calligraphy Summer Program at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico. Her work might best be described as ”seamlessly weaving together text and image, drawing viewers in with hints and whispers rather than shouts or loud exclamations.” For her, sketching is a passion. As a teacher her goal is to help students cultivate their art passion and get over the fear of the blank page.
