Bob Rankin and Fritz Kapraun return to La Romita after their successful debut in 2005. They welcome students of any media or experience level in their team taught workshop.
Bob holds a BS degree from East Carolina University and has studied with Joe Cox and George Bireline. His acrylic abstract and impressionistic landscapes have been featured in the International Artist Magazine. His works are in both corporate and prominent individual collections. With 28 years of experience teaching in the Raleigh, North Carolina school system, Bob can individually assist students with instruction in any media, including oils, acrylics, watercolor and pen and ink. He has developed teaching techniques to bring out the talents of students at all levels of experience. He will make opportunities throughout the session to strengthen use of valuepatterns, composition and design. His enthusiasm for art is invigorating and supportive, encouraging students to reach within for inspiration to enhance their artistic competency. He will hold frequent studio demonstrations and friendly critiques.
Fritz Kapraun holds a PhD from the University of Texas and has taught botany and environmental science for more than 30 years at the University level. He has significant experience as a biological illustrator. He uses watercolor painting to explore the relationship between human culture and architecture as “we truly design and occupy living spaces that become inseparable from our world-view and life style”. He is particularly interested in using watercolor images to define distinct architectural styles that immediately give us a sense of place. Emphasis will be placed on seeing and incorporating critical detail into our compositions. Visits to hill towns will allow us to experience and study the relationship between culture and architecture in Umbria.
